STAR.ROSE DEXTER CATTLE

Are you wondering why anyone would want such little cows???  Dugan & Aynie

Dexters are the ideal smallholder's cow, providing just enough

lean beef and milk for a family.
Dexter cattle are hardy, needing less acreage and feed
than production breeds.
Best of all is their docile, friendly temperament.
All this makes the Dexter breed a great choice for a family farm!

We strive to preserve traditional, dual purpose,
registered Dexter cattle.
We raise & train our heifers to be family milk cows.
We milk our Dexter cows!
Our steers provide lean, healthy, great tasting beef.
All of our Dexters are grass fed.

Ada

Our cattle are part of our
rotational grazing system.
They eat the less palatable plants
in the pasture,
leaving the best grasses for the horses.
Besides being fun to have around,
they help with the weeding!

Midnight
4S Midnight
is our herd sire.
He's a large, beefy, Dexter bull
with a mellow, friendly disposition.
He loves his ladies
and having his back scratched.
Midnight is sometimes available
 for stud service.

Nema
GLENN LAND NEMA was my first Dexter,
bought as a weanling, in 2003.
She does not like to be milked, but is an excellent mother and an easy keeper.
Two of her heifers were trained & sold as family milk cows and she is a great
producer of beef calves.
Nema is for sale.

SpiritWhen I went looking for a bull to breed to Nema, I ended up buying Cloud, Along with Spirit, and her heifer, Lucy.
Warning: These charming cows are addictive!

Spirit is a short, hardy cow. Untamed, but docile, she has been a wonderful mother to all her calves during her long life, including some well appreciated family cows.
Lucy
R U Lucy
is one of my favorite cows
and the matriarch of our milk line.
I learned how to hand milk with this wonderful cow
and she passes on her great disposition to her calves.
In 2006, Lucy gave us the first heifer to be born on this ranch, which I named Ada, after my grandmother.
Ada
Star. Rose Ada
is another one of our divine bovines
who produces milk for us,
and calves for families who want the ideal
dual purpose cow.
Ada is easygoing & friendly. I adore her!
Her firstborn Heifer, in 2009, was Dance.
Dance
Star. Rose Dance
is so named because she leapt into the air so often
in her first few days of life.
I don't have a photo that gives justice to this beautiful heifer that is a perfect example of everything that I breed for in our Dexters.
Dance is our third generation of the Star. Rose Dexter milk line.
