Are you wondering why anyone would want such little cows???

Dexters are the ideal smallholder's cow, providing just enough lean beef and milk for a family.
Dexter cattle are hardy, needing less acreage and feed than production breeds.  Dexters are known for their ease of calving.
Best of all is their docile, friendly temperament.
All this makes the Dexter breed a great choice for a family farm!

We have been raising purebred, registered Dexter cattle since 2003. Our focus is on preserving the traditional horned, dual purpose type of Dexter. So far, all have been black. We raise & train the heifers to be family milk cows, and we milk all our cows. Our cattle graze the grass pastures or are sometimes supplemented with grass or alfalfa hay. One of our goals is to have cattle that are easy keepers, never needing grain. Our steers provide incredibly delicious beef. The herd was tested for chondrodysplasia in 2007, all now are Homozygous Normal.

The herd today

4S Midnight is our herd sire. He is a large, beefy Dexter bull, who is exceptionally mellow and docile. He tested A2/A2. He loves his ladies and having his back scratched. His offspring has also been beefy and at the large end of the standard for Dexters. We get excellent weight on his steers. PEDIGREE

Way back in 2004, I went looking for a bull to breed to our first heifer, Nema. I ended up buying the bull, Cloud, along with his mate, Spirit, and their calf, Lucy.

Warning: These charming cattle are addictive!

RU Lucy turned out to be one of my favorite cows, and the matriarch of our milk line. I learned how to hand milk with this wonderful cow, sitting on a stool with a book balanced on my lap. She was patient & cooperative with me. Like all our Dexters, she is a devoted mother. Lucy passes on her intelligent & willing disposition to her calves.  PEDIGREE

Star.Rose Dance is the grand daughter of Lucy, one of the third generation of milking Dexters in our line. Dance got her name because, when she was born, after a few wobbly steps, she leapt into the air. She's a lively, happy cow and her calves often display their trait of jumping for joy. Dance is a great physical example of what we are breeding for, in this line. PEDIGREE

We offer registered breeding stock for sale, at weaning. Bull calves are usually steered early for beef production, so if you are interested in a bull calf, please reserve one ahead of the calving season. We condition & train our heifers to be family milk cows. Our bull is sometimes available for stud service or lease.                   We enjoy our Dexters! You will, too!
