AMERICAN GUINEA HOGS

Young American Guinea Hogs

Our Guinea Hogs, Lucky and Dove, joined our ranch in the summer of 2010.
I wasn't sure if I could handle pigs, so the small size of
American Guinea Hogs seemed like a good choice. Their temperament has lived up to the claims- I just love these little hogs!
Our boar, Lucky, is cooperative, friendly and loves rolling over for belly rubs.
       He even enjoys babysitting.

Dove is charming, loves attention and welcomes everyone she meets. Here she is, begging for scratches at The National Heirloom Exposition:  Dove at the Heirloom Expo

the pigs are moved around the garden and other weedy areas
where their tilling ability can be put to good use. After they have removed all the weeds and loosened the soil, I throw down some cover crop seed.  Dove grazing
I also use them as pigerators to turn compost. Video of that is Here.

They are useful animals to have on a family farm,

as well as providing deep red pork that is favored by chefs
and described as juicy, flavorful and delicious.
